Today is bittersweet. Ashton gets to come home today, which we are all very excited for (and by the smile on his face, I'd say he was the most excited), but it also means that this is real and it's coming home with us. Ash wasn't cured at the hospital and they aren't sending us home with a healthy kid. It means that Doug and I are on our own to manage and care for his diabetes and that we'll have to do this forever. It is very overwhelming to think about. But for now we are just happy he is doing better and he can't wait to play with all of his toys and sleep in his own bed!

October in Review
Happy Halloween
Check out this crazy crew! They were geared up for some trick or treating! They braved the elements (freezing cold, strong winds and snow/rain) for about 45 minutes before heading back in! I don't think they were too disappointed though because they were coming back for a sleepover at the Meyer's! This year it wasn't quite the happiest of Halloween's with the bad weather and Ashy being in the hospital but we made the best of it!
Too Little for This...
This is definitely not a typical Halloween for us. But Ash is definitely doing better. This morning I came in to this semi smiling face, which is much better than yesterday. It still breaks my heart to see him in this hospital bed but at least he has all of his wires out and is sitting up playing. Doug and I had about 2 hours training on how to check his blood sugar and how to give his injections and a crash course on diabetes in general. Then we met with the nutritionist to go over his diet. It was a lot to take in! And it was one of the worst experiences having to give your kid a shot while he screamed and cried...

Worst Day....
Today our lives changed forever. Ashton had been not quite right for a few weeks (excessive thirst and peeing, irritable, random appetite, etc.). He had croup 2 weeks ago and was treated with steroids, so we were attributing some of his symptoms to that but after so long we knew it was something else. I spent 5 hours with the two little ones at the pediatrician getting x-rays and tests done on Ash. Finally a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. I was shocked. The dr. couldn't even hold it together while she was telling me. After all that, we went immediately to the hospital for fluids, monitoring, and diabetes education. This little guy was so sick. We didn't realize how bad. Our lives would now consist of finger pricks, insulin injections, carb counting, and constant monitoring. He looked so little in that hospital bed. And he had no idea what was going on and why he couldn't go 'bye-bye'. Heartbreaking.

Hands On Museum
Our last adventure in Ann Arbor was the Hands On Museum. It was a little like Science Central in FW but bigger and a little better. The kids did experiments, climbed a rock wall, played in water, made a tornado and lots more! Such a cool place!
